***Step 2: Be baptized*** (birth of the water)
Why are we baptized?
1. For the remission (washing away of sins)
· --Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…”
· --Acts 22:16 ‘And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
2. To put on Christ
· --Galatians 3:26-27 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
3. For Salvation
· --Mark 16:16 “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe shall be condemned.”
· --1 Peter 3:20-21 When sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), by the resurrection of Jesus Christ;
4. To be buried with Christ
· --Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
· --Romans 6:3-4 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in the newness of life.
How were they baptized?
1. In Jesus Name
· --Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…”
· --Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
2. Full Immersion
· --Acts 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
· --Matthew 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, when up straightway out of the water; and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
