Neon Lights and Shadows: A Misguided Judgment
I want to be fit. Good grief! So, what can possibly go wrong? Of course, everything! This has been my long-term goal since I was in my 20s, as I have struggled with my weight for a long time. The struggle is real. And it seems I'm failing miserably at it despite the efforts. Life has really punked me!
So, why should it surprise me if I get ridicule when I put myself out there as a music artist? I don't have a large following. However, it's how the world rolls whether you're well-known or not. They will judge you by your outward appearance because most people just can't see beyond the veil, nor your inner struggle or efforts. All they see is what is on the surface.
Ditching the victim mentality
I've heard people say things such as:
((Sonya, you're trying to make yourself look like the victim.))
Absolutely not! Own your journey.
In life, it's easy to point fingers and blame others for our setbacks. But the truth is, our successes and failures are our own.
I've learned this the hard way, navigating through scams, false promises, and wasted money in pursuit of health and happiness. But amidst the chaos, I've realized something profound: we hold the power to change our mindset.
Despite setbacks, I refuse to be a victim. Instead, I'm using every stumble as a steppingstone, embracing each challenge as an opportunity for growth.
Weight loss, health struggles, financial woes – they're all part of the journey. But it's how we respond that defines us. So, let's ditch the blame game and take charge of our lives. Whether it's a loss or a lesson, let's choose growth. Because in the end, we are the architects of our own destiny.
Never blame others. Never make excuses. People who are fit have put in the effort to be where they are today. And that is a good thing. That is what makes them so inspiring. Lets aspire to be like that.
Ditching the judgmental attitude
Health and fitness should be inspirational and not used as a reason to look down on those who have not yet achieved their dream body. Also, we have to understand that some people have to work harder to achieve those things due to underlying health issues that are sometimes hard to pinpoint. Yes, I believe I also can be successful, just as they are. But we've got some bad apples to deal with in the fitness community, and I am spelling it out!
Some people don't seem to know how to conversate without disrespecting someone. If someone got something wrong that you think you know about, why insult that person? Why can't you just have intelligent conversation? Makes no sense.
In a cruel world that only judges you by your outward appearance, the digital age has given rise to self-proclaimed (("fitness experts")). These influencers, often perched high on their virtual towers, cast shadows on those struggling with their health.
They spew judgments, calling people "ugly" and blaming them for their appearance or health issues. But let's be real: these criticisms are not born out of genuine concern or understanding. They're the hollow echoes of ignorance, lacking any insight into the individual battles being fought behind the scenes.
Oh, the classic "let's make fun of people for their weight" game. Well, here's the deal, folks: fat shaming is like trying to fix a car engine by hitting it with a wrench. Sure, you might get some results, but they're probably not the ones you were hoping for.
Studies show that fat shaming doesn't actually motivate people to lose weight. In fact, it can have the opposite effect, leading to increased stress, emotional eating, and even weight gain. It's like telling someone with a broken leg to just walk it off. Not helpful, and kinda rude.
There are several studies and research articles that have examined the effects of fat shaming and its impact on weight loss, stress, and emotional well-being. Here's a brief overview of some of the key findings:
Fat Shaming and Its Consequences: Research published in the journal Obesity (2013) found that weight discrimination and fat shaming can actually lead to increased weight gain. The study concluded that those who experienced weight discrimination were more likely to gain weight over time compared to those who did not experience such discrimination.
Psychological Impact: A study in the American Journal of Public Health (2014) found that weight-based teasing and stigmatization are linked to negative psychological outcomes, including increased stress, depression, and anxiety. These factors often lead to emotional eating and weight gain, rather than motivating individuals to lose weight.
Emotional Eating: Research in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology (2012) demonstrated that fat shaming can lead to increased eating, particularly comfort eating. The study suggested that being stigmatized for one's weight can trigger emotional eating, which undermines efforts to maintain or lose weight.
Weight Stigma and Health: A study in BMC Medicine (2015) highlighted that weight stigma and fat shaming are associated with increased risks of several health issues, including high blood pressure, metabolic syndrome, and even mortality. The stress induced by weight stigma can lead to behaviors that are detrimental to health, such as overeating and avoiding physical activity.
These studies show that fat shaming not only fails to motivate weight loss but can actually exacerbate the very issues it is meant to address. Instead of helping, it often leads to negative psychological and physical outcomes, further complicating efforts to achieve a healthier lifestyle.
Plus, let's not forget that body size and shape are influenced by a whole bunch of factors, including genetics, environment, hormonal dysregulation, and yes, even that pesky thing called "free will."
So, unless you're a geneticist, nutritionist, personal trainer, and therapist all rolled into one, maybe leave the weight loss advice to the professionals.
In the meantime, let's all try to be a little kinder to each other, shall we? After all, life's too short to spend it worrying about the size of someone else's pants.
The Eternal Struggle: Fighting for Health
Picture this: a lifelong struggle with weight, an endless cycle of diets and programs, countless hours and dollars spent on doctors and medications. And yet, the wall remains unscalable, the battle unyielding. You've tried everything, only to be met with the sneers of smug youths, who dismiss your efforts with cruel words: (("You're ugly and fat, it's all your fault, and you're a terrible person.")) Little do they know about the underlying health conditions that make weight loss a Herculean task. They can't fathom the frustration and pain of doing everything right and still falling short.
The Farce of Quick Fixes
And then there are the doctors, with their quick fixes and expensive prescriptions. (("Here, take this pill for the rest of your miserable life,")) they say, their eyes glinting with profit. But a quick glance at the side effects reveals a bitter irony: weight gain and hair loss. Isn't medicine supposed to heal? It feels like a cruel joke, the punchline delivered by Big Pharma, a machine more interested in filling its pockets than in genuine healing.
Empathy Over Judgment
That's my story. That's why I refuse to look down on anyone dealing with health problems. Weight loss is not a one-size-fits-all journey; it's a complex, deeply personal struggle. Dedication to fitness and health is commendable, but mocking those in crisis only adds to their burden. It doesn't help them get well; it only deepens their pain.
The Heart Matters More
Lifting weights and following diets might sculpt your body, but they don't touch the heart. What's more important: your outward appearance or the condition of your heart? In a world obsessed with physical beauty, we often neglect the most vital aspects of our existence: our hearts and our God-given purpose.
Think Before You Speak
Remember, anyone can find themselves in a health crisis. If you think it can't happen to you, think again. You might consider yourself an expert, but no fad diet, magic pill, or gimmicky solution can replace the need for genuine, holistic health. Our food is tainted, and Big Pharma is a profit-driven behemoth. Seek out a naturopathic doctor, get tested, and understand your unique needs. Don't listen to these online "gurus" who think they know what you should do. They don't know. They aren't you.
Embrace Your Journey
I refuse to give an ounce of my energy to these digital detractors. If you're struggling, I urge you to do the same. Stay focused, stay motivated, love yourself, and recognize your worth. Everyone's body is different. Do your own research, find out what works for you, and walk your path with confidence. Only you can determine what's right for you. In this neon-lit, synthwave world, let your journey be as unique and vibrant as the beats that drive you forward.
